Interview with Abraham Juarez
Q: Where are you from, New Mexico or elsewhere?
AJ: I was born in California but moved to New Mexico at a very early age. I have lived in various other cities but New Mexico will always be my home.
Q: When you aren’t overseeing your property and staff, what do you like to spend your time doing?
AJ: I am a huge fan of the cinema and theater, it is my way to escape the day. I also have a competitive streak in me so I love to play soccer or any other team sport whenever possible.
Q: What is your prior experience to this position?
AJ: I have been in the Food and Beverage industry for over 20 years in various positions. I have been a part of the hotel industry for a little over two years and I find the challenge fascinating.
Q: How long have you been with Heritage? Did you start as a GM? If not, what positions have you held in the past?
AJ: I started with Heritage in February 2014. I was brought in as the corporate Outlets Manager. A little less than a year later I moved to Santa Fe as the F&B Director of Eldorado Hotel & Spa. Now I reside in Taos as the General Manager of El Monte Sagrado.
Q: What was it about this company and your specific property that attracted you to the position?
AJ: I have always been fortunate to work for independent/family run businesses. The fact that there is a direct line to ownership, corporate management reminds me of that “mom & pop” style of business.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the hospitality industry, or about this job in general?
AJ: The challenge of executing service to the highest standard on a daily basis with the challenge to improve monetary performance drives me to be creative as well as to create a team environment.
Q: Describe your vision for your property moving forward in one sentence.
AJ: I want us to set the standard for the company like no other!
Q: If you had to choose the one thing that you feel makes your property so unique, what would it be?
AJ: There are too many to pinpoint. Staying at El Monte is an experience!
