Interview With Carín Corrie, Wedding & Special Events Coordinator at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Albuquerque
Q: Where are you originally from? New Mexico or elsewhere?
CC: I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I have lived here my whole life aside from living in Phoenix, Arizona for two years when I danced professionally for the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.
Q: When you aren’t planning flawless events for your clients, what do you spend your time doing?
CC: I love working out, doing Pilates and spending time with my husband and two pups!
Q: Where did you go to school?
CC: I graduated from The University of New Mexico with my degree in Business Administration in 2012 and went on to receive my MBA also from UNM in 2014.
Q: How long have you been with Heritage Hotels & Resorts? What was it about this company and its weddings & special events that attracted you to this position?
CC: I’m rather new to the Heritage family. I started my position in February of this year. I first became attracted to the company when I had my own wedding at one of the beautiful Heritage properties – Hotel Albuquerque. My wedding was everything I dreamt of and more! After my experience and always having an interest in the hospitality business, I really felt a calling to become a part of the Heritage team to create lasting impression like what was created for me on my wedding day.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the wedding industry or this job in general?
CC: My favorite part about my job is seeing the unique differences about each couple and each wedding. I love seeing everyone’s personalities really shine through in all the details of their special days!
Q: What is one trend you can’t get enough of?
CC: I love the trend of replacing the traditional wedding cake with something more fun like cupcakes, mini cakes, macaroons or even doughnuts! It’s a great way to again, let the personality of the bride and groom really shine while impressing guests by giving them something uniquely different than just a slice of wedding cake for dessert.
Q: One trend you’re ready to say goodbye to?
CC: I love a good burlap and lace theme but in some instances it can be a little overkill. I feel like somecouples are choosing this theme just because it’s all they see on Pinterest these days. It’s a little overdone and I’d like to see some more variety in wedding themes. Step out of the box and let your personality shine through!
Q: Favorite part of the wedding day?
CC: When the groom sees his bride in her wedding gown for the first time!
Q: What’s your favorite first dance song?
CC: “Thinking Out Loud,” by Ed Sheeran. I may be a little bias though since that is the song my husband and I shared our first dance to on our wedding day!
Q: What is one tip you’d like to share with couples who are at the beginning stages of planning?
CC: Don’t lose too much sleep over the little details! On your wedding day you likely won’t even remember them or you’ll wonder why you made such a big deal out of something so small. You’ll be so excited to marry your future husband or wife that suddenly, that’s the only thing that truly matters!
Q: If you had to choose one thing that you feel makes your property so unique, what would it be?
CC: At Hyatt we have just finished construction on our brand new wedding chapel! It’s sleek and modern design makes it uniquely different from any other wedding chapel or venue in New Mexico!
