Interview with Glen Osburn
Q: Where are you from, New Mexico or elsewhere?
GO: I am originally from London, England. Having working in the USA with Disney I met and married my wife from New Mexico. I have now lived here for two years.
Q: When you aren’t overseeing your property and staff, what do you like to spend your time doing?
GO: I enjoy reading and going to and participating in any and all sports. I am always trying to improve my leadership skills and knowledge so where possible I enjoy continued education events.
Q: Where did you go to school or obtain your degree?
GO: I went to school in the UK in a town called Maidstone in Kent.
Q: What is your prior experience to this position?
GO: I started my career in the food and beverage industry managing restaurant and bars in the UK. I then moved on to managing leisure complexes and gyms. To expand my knowledge I managed a hotel in London before moving on to life at sea, working on cruise ships. I was fortunate enough to be a train the trainer for Disney Cruise Line, helping to train my colleagues in the fine art of customer care. Once I because a cruise director I really fine tuned my skills and learnt to enjoy sharing the spirit of hospitality with all guests and crew.
Q: How long have you been with Heritage? Did you start as a GM? If not, what positions have you held in the past?
GO: I started 18 months ago as a director of operations. Since then I have been the General Manager for Nativo Lodge and currently the Regional General Manager for the Nativo Lodge in Albuquerque and The Lodge at Santa Fe.
Q: What was it about this company and your specific property that attracted you to the position?
GO: I was drawn to Heritage Hotels & Resorts, Inc. due to the company’s policy of giving back to the community and preserving the culture of New Mexico. This is truly a special place to work.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the hospitality industry, or about this job in general?
GO: Being a people person, I really enjoy the opportunity to serve others. My job is all about making sure our guests receive an authentic New Mexican experience; we aim to create that once in a lifetime memory, every time.
Q: Describe your vision for your property moving forward in one sentence.
GO: My vision for the Nativo Lodge, is to continue and increase our beautiful Artist rooms; we are so fortunate in New Mexico to have some incredible talent that really is that once in a lifetime memory. My vision for The Lodge at Santa Fe is to become Santa Fe’s premier family resort, and with our incredible Anasazi theme, huge outdoor pool and great location, we are the perfect retreat.
Q: If you had to choose the one thing that you feel makes your property so unique, what would it be?
GO: Nativo: It is hard to pick just one as the Artist rooms, our main lobby with huge Sharman plus our outdoor teepee are all so unique. If I had to pick one it would be our Beautiful Artist rooms and new Family Artist Suite.
The Lodge at Santa Fe: From the beautiful tower as you arrive, the amazing furniture and finishing throughout the hotel to the large outdoor pool and Maria Benitez Cabaret offering Flamenco shows throughout the summer there really is something for the whole family.
